Raisa swing collective

The Raisa swing collective – founded by Bart Rozemeijer in 2004 – comprises musicians from various cultures: Israeli, German, Argentinean, Swiss and Dutch. Combining their different cultural backgrounds and influences, these musicians create Raisa’s unique sound.

Since its birth in 2004 Raisa has constantly been on the move. Its music has evolved into a mélange of American song book (swing, bossa nova, waltz, samba, rumba, bolero), influences from contemporary jazz and their roots in gipsy-jazz. Like the traditional gipsy-jazz, Raisa’s sound is based on the rhythm guitar and double bass, respectively played by band leader and rhythm guitarist Bart Rozemeijer and double bass player Sven Schuster. This basis is enlarged by soloists David Golek on guitar, Natalio Sued on tenor saxophone singer Lils Mackintosh and Benni von Gutzeit on viola.

Raisa’s musicians have played concerts at Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Bimhuis and elsewhere and they have played with Ravi Coltrane, Lonnie Smith, Rosenberg Trio, Bireli Lagrene and others.
